Customer onboarding (applicants)

The customer onboarding website is for applicants who want to open an account. It is separate from the customer portal, which existing customers use after they are onboarded.

Starting point

The home page asks the applicant to choose the type of account they want to open. Typical options include:

  • Personal account — for individuals (for example, savings, everyday banking, personal investments, depending on your product set).
  • Kids account — for minor accounts, following your organization’s product rules.
  • Corporate account — for businesses and related entities.

Applicants should pick the path that matches their situation; staff can help if someone is unsure.

What applicants do (high level)

Each path collects information your organization needs to know your customer, fund the account, and offer the right products. Flows may include:

  • Identity and contact details
  • Product choices
  • Declarations, consent, or indemnities as required by your legal and compliance teams

Corporate applications often include more steps than personal ones (for example, company details, beneficial ownership, banking information, products, and legal acknowledgements). The exact labels and order follow the live onboarding site.

After submission

What happens next is a business process:

  • Internal staff may review applications in the staff ERP if your permissions and workflow are set up that way.
  • Applicants may receive email or other communications your organization configures.

Document your approval timeline and required documents in workflows/README.md when you formalize them.

Relationship to other applications

  • Once an applicant is approved and becomes a customer, they typically move to the customer portal for ongoing self-service. See customer-portal.md.
  • Staff use the ERP to process applications and manage customer records. See erp/core-and-customers.md.
